On Sunday, July 20th, edamame lovers from around the world will gather at Aore Nagaoka in Niigata Prefecture to compete in a unique and thrilling event — the “World Edamame Speed-Eating Championship”! Contestants must eat beautifully, quickly, and with appreciation for the beloved green snack.

• Individual Division: Eat as many edamame as you can (approx. 400g) within 100 seconds.
• Team Division: Teams of three aim to finish approx. 1,000g of edamame in the same time.

*Strict rules apply, including penalties for leftovers or dropped edamame shells.

• Participants (called "fighters") come from around the world to join this one-of-a-kind international event.
• Winners receive prizes: ¥50,000 for individuals and ¥100,000 for teams.
• Fair play is enforced with precise rules — dropping shells costs you 5g per bean!

Niigata is one of Japan’s top edamame-producing regions. The event celebrates the local tradition known as the "Niigata Edamame-Mori Style," where people enjoy big heaps of edamame together. This culture inspired the creation of the championship.
